SOCORRO MISSION
A cornerstone of the historic El Paso Mission Trail, La Purísima Socorro Mission has anchored the Lower Valley since its original church was completed in 1691. The adobe sanctuary standing today — dedicated in 1843, with six-foot-thick walls and massive hand-hewn vigas — is one of the oldest continuously operated missions in Texas and a National Register landmark.
Step inside for a moving glimpse of the region’s Spanish colonial roots, or simply admire one of Socorro’s most treasured pieces of living history.
CASA ORTIZ (ART GALLERY)
Set in a late-1700s adobe on the historic Mission Trail, Casa Ortiz is Socorro’s creative heart — an art gallery, gift shop, and sculpture garden showcasing local and regional artists.
Once home to 19th-century salt trader José Ortiz along El Camino Real, the storied building now hosts rotating exhibits, cultural events, and a growing community of makers. Wander the galleries, browse handmade finds, or soak up the adobe charm — Casa Ortiz is where Socorro’s history and its artistic spirit come together.
LICON DAIRY FARM
A beloved Mission Trail tradition for over 50 years, Licon Dairy is famous for its rich, homemade queso asadero — the four-generation family recipe that keeps El Pasoans coming back.
But the real draw for families is the free petting zoo, where kids can meet everything from llamas and ostriches to camels and buffalo, then cast a line at the catfish-stocked fishing pond. Pick up fresh cheese at the shop and make a day of it — Licon Dairy is San Elizario’s favorite family outing.
